The Celestial Buffet and Other Morsels of Murder
The Celestial Buffet is the first collection of short mystery stories by the Anthony-Award winning author of the Jill Smith and Kiernan O'Shaughnessy detective novels. Not only does it include one case for private-eye O'Shaughnessy and four for cop Jill Smith, but it also collects two of the most imaginative detective stories ever written - tales of "The Celestial detective" who investigates crimes in the Afterlife - or, perhaps more accurately, crimes that sent someone to the Afterlife. "Death", The Celestial detective explains, "is not all it's cracked up to be." Other tales emphasize the petty frustrations of everyday life. "When I'm about to write a short story, "Susan Dunlap tells us, "the driver who cuts me off, or the person who doesn't return a phone call for days, becomes not an irritant but an inspiration.
