About Us

Crippen & Landru was incorporated in 1994 by Douglas Greene. Doug is the author of the Edgar–nominated biography, John Dickson Carr: The Man Who Explained Miracles, and the editor of several anthologies of short stories, most recently, Detection by Gaslight (Dover, 1997) and The Detections of Miss Cusack (Battered Silicon Dispatch Box, 1998) with Jack Adrian, and R. Austin Freeman's The Dead Hand and Other Uncollected Stories, with Tony Medawar (Battered Silicon Dispatch Box), 1999. To order these last three books, contact George Vanderburgh at GAV@bmts.com.

Crippen & Landru is primarily a small business operation. Doug retired as Publisher in 2018 but continues as Senior Editor where he works on new Edward Hoch collections and an upcoming Carr collection.

Jeffrey Marks, the award-winning author of biographies of Craig Rice and Anthony Boucher, joined Crippen & Landru as Director of Development and Webmaster in 2014. He assumed the role of Publisher in 2018. Feel free to ask him about his dogs or his collection of mystery first editions. Jeff does the editorial work, handles the typesetting, and finds the cover designers.

Crippen & Landru also has an Advisory Board made up of some of the most knowledgeable people in the field: Jack Adrian, Josh Pachter, Allen J. Hubin, Marvin Lachman, Roland Lacourbe, Tony Medawar, Barry Pike, Bill Pronzini, B. J. Rahn, and Bill Ruehlmann. They recommend books, locate the material, and provide wisdom.
